Define Your Why

The worldly pursuit is something that often distracts me, taking away from the bigger picture of why we do what we do. Why do we work so hard? Why strive for more in business, life, and everything else? I believe it all comes down to defining our why. Too often we seek to make more money, gain more status, reach a certain place, or have certain things and people in our lives. But when I slow down, I realize that no matter how successful I become, I will never be content if my heart remains postured that way. Some of this is an inevitable trap we fall into as humans.
But what would it look like to break free? To hold our business, status, and circumstances so loosely, yet walk with confidence and surrender through both the highs and the lows? How do I become satisfied in a world that is always wanting more?
I write about this because I have not yet cracked the code. I am in the midst of this struggle, where I often find myself discontent regardless of my situation. It seems that only when I choose to surrender both the successes and failures of my life to the Lord can He bring me into a season of readiness, peace, and satisfaction.
The pursuit itself is not wrong. We are meant to use our God-given talents and abilities to grow, create, and contribute to the world. But why? Define your why, because it just might put you on a completely new roadmap. And we ought to make sure it's pointing toward God.
