Passivity is Killing Your Purpose

Passivity keeps us from stepping into God's purpose, but we are called to move forward in obedience—even before we feel ready or qualified.

I believe God has called each and every one of us to something greater than ourselves.

For some, that calling looks drastic: quitting a job, starting a business, going into missions, moving away, or planting roots somewhere new. For others, it may be as simple as sharing your faith at work, pursuing deeper relationships, or getting plugged into a local church.

No matter what it looks like, it usually feels uncomfortable. But it all starts with one thing: saying yes.

At the end of the day, it's simple. Respond and be obedient to the call God has placed on your heart.

You may not always know exactly what that call is. But in my experience, falling forward tends to jump-start the process.

“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” — James 4:17

I've noticed, both in my own life and in the lives of others, that we often choose the easier, more passive route when navigating life. We have big goals, dreams, and aspirations, but we never take a step toward the very thing we desire—or toward what we feel God is calling us to.

More often than not, the reason is fear.

“Whoever is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys.” — Proverbs 18:9

“I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of a man lacking sense, and behold, it was all overgrown with thorns... A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber.” — Proverbs 24:30–34

“Whoever watches the wind will not sow, and whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.” — Ecclesiastes 11:4

The idea that things will simply fall into our lap is foolish thinking. God hears our prayers, but He also blesses our obedience and the work of our hands.

It's time to put yourself in motion toward the things God has placed on your heart.

That's the entire purpose behind Called & Unqualified.

You aren't ready—and you may never feel ready. But you need to step into the unknown anyway.

The life you want to live will not happen by accident.

It's time to stop being passive and start pursuing the unique purpose God has placed on your heart. And if you don't know exactly what that purpose is yet, that's okay. I don't fully know mine either.

But let's start falling forward together.

Because we are all called long before we feel qualified.
