Sometimes It Takes Longer Than You Think

Being in your early twenties is a fascinating season of life. Friends scatter across the country pursuing different paths—some are starting families, some are broke and traveling the world, and others are somewhere in between. One thing I've learned is that we all have our own journey, and each path shapes the man we are becoming beyond this stage of life.
What never seems to go away, though, is the constant pressure of our ambitions and goals. We want the job, the business, the money, the girl, the success, the recognition—whatever it is. This is the season where we're building into that man. But those things don't happen overnight. In a world driven by instant gratification and self-seeking fulfillment, we have an opportunity to set ourselves apart more than ever before.
How do we do that? Honestly, I'm still figuring it out myself. But one thing I do know is this: the greatest risk you can take at this stage of life is inaction. Try. Fail. Learn. Do. You'll probably never be this young, independent, and broke again. Go figure it out.
One thing I've also learned is that the journey often takes longer than you expect. That used to frustrate me, but I'm beginning to understand that God is often preparing us for the next season before He brings us into it. He uses the waiting to shape our character and mold us into the men we're called to become.
Sometimes it will take longer than you think. But find a way to glorify God through every part of it, and learn to enjoy the process—even when it's rigorous, challenging, lonely, and hard. Because if it came easy, you probably wouldn't appreciate it nearly as much.
